The Netherlands drives
on solar and wind energy

The supply of renewable energy is growing rapidly

Renewable energy comes in peaks and dips: the wind blows and the sun shines at moments that the elements determine themselves. This does not always coincide with the demand for electricity, which is why we need to store the energy to use it in an efficient way. The batteries of electric vehicles provide the perfect solution. How this works in practice is researched, tested and applied in the Living Lab Smart Charging. The Netherlands has a significant amount of knowledge on this subject, and thus is able to contribute to an international standard.

Electric trucks: economically and environmentally desirable but misunderstood

By Auke Hoekstra In this blog series we will calculate the cost per kilometer of a heavy-duty long-haul battery electric truck. The real thing! We add this option to the comprehensive report “The Future of Trucks” that the International Energy Agency published this month. This report strangely omits this option from its comparison, even though we will see it is both the best way to combat global warming and to decrease costs.  The end results are shown below and explained in detail [..]

Pilot with flexible charging in Amsterdam

The city of Amsterdam is preparing itself together with Nuon, Liander and ElaadNL for an expected increase in the number of electric vehicles in the city and the use of more locally generated sustainable energy in the coming years. On March 1st 2017, the city of Amsterdam started a pilot on the ‘flexible charging’ of electric vehicles. This means that charging stations align the charging of electric vehicles with the total electricity demand and, in the future, the supply of renewable [..]
